Threaten Yourself With Change…

It’s so powerful to threaten yourself with something new.

Taking a leap off the pier into unknown waters is quite a wake-up call to your senses.
There’s something to learn from all this, with regards to your own self-improvement.   Give this a close read. You’re going to learn something new today.  This is a bit different than my usual topic but very helpful.

To Transcend Requires Discomfort
How many of you reading this are tired of just “getting by”? Tired of just EXISTING?  Or tired of something?

What motivates you to do something different?  Most of us have calluses around the parts of our life that are uncomfortable.

Even though the pain points still exist …Even though we’d feel better if we moved onto something that fit us more appropriately.

It goes against human nature to want to feel pain. But that’s exactly what you have to do to move yourself forward. It doesn’t even have to be life-threatening pain.

You might not have to quit your job, shave your head, and denounce bathing.

Maybe you just have to choose something simple like no longer eating food from a drive-thru ever again.

How To Start

You will be required to break from the old.  You will be required to pick a path and start.

That requires STARTING.  Starting is the primary ingredient of doing something different.

Don’t believe me?

For almost 15 years, I did nothing about trying to quit smoking.

On that first day of doing something, here’s what I did…

I wrote down all the reasons why I knew I had to make changes.  The next day, I looked over the reasons I’d written down – like protecting my children…Then I decided to do it.     I told myself each day that… I won’t smoke today – tomorrow I might change my mind but, not for today.

Each day I’d start that process again.

But that was the START!  And that led to the next thing.

This is VITAL to understand.

Life is a series of gravities.

You’re with the company you’re with…that has some gravity.

You’re with the relationships you have…that has some gravity.

Your habits are all gravities unto themselves.

To escape from these velosities you must change them for the better, you have to break out of an existing orbit.

You have to build up a fire in your internal engines to make a change.

And as you build up that fire, you’ve gotta set your sights on a star. You have to point in a direction, and not just plan to shake free.

Be Specific

The plans you make that promote change don’t have to be grand. But they DO need to be specific.

You don’t have to shoot for the moon. START with little changes. But they must be plans where you talk to yourself in terms of where you’re going, not where you’ve been.

Still using someone who has overcome a similar quest as an example.

“I want to quit smoking” was a lame banner for me.

Now compare that to…

“I want to improve my children’s chances of not getting lung cancer, have a cleaner home, to live longer & healthier”…  Thankfully, it’s been 18+ years since my last cigarette!

See that?

See the difference?

The second one is ultra specific, AND it emphasizes where i wanted to go, not where I’d been.

Always plan with a forward-facing goal.

You

What would you change if you knew it’d make your life better, but in a small way?

Here’s one that might fit you:

You want to have no debt on your credit card by the end of the year.

To that end, you have to “kick it up a notch” – start an online business, go back to school, and start to dig your heels in.

I mean really dig in and DO this!

To do that, you know you’re going to have to make changes that feel “ouchy,” but that will get you there.

It’s change. It’s not life threatening, but it’s somewhat painful at times (and equally rewarding).

It’s going towards a goal (debt-free card). Remember specificity.

It will hurt and require habit changes to accomplish. Yet at the same time, it’s not earth-shattering.

What kinds of goals can you see threatening yourself with over the next few months?

What would be the FIRST step you’d take? And how will that both build, and keep momentum?

My Suggestion:

I’ve got some great content coming your way so stay tuned.

I’m going to be sharing with you all varieties of content right here that focuses on how you can “escape velocity” by taking one of the most important steps in starting your own online business.
